Goodbye mr, Rassoulis - You will be missed and danced.....

Obviously this is not a very happy weekend. I was just informed that the artist mr. Manolis Rassoulis is no longer among us.
For my greek friends - I take it that you know who this amazing person was.
For my foreigner friends - Please keep reading to find out who he was....
Photo from in.gr

This sweet man was one of the most talented song-writers in Greece. But he was much more than that...

He was born in September of 1945, in Crete island and he was the son of a goldsmith. He left the island and studied cinematography in Athens while singing in Plaka and working for a left-wing newspaper at the time.
He left Greece during dictatorship(1967-1974)- after getting arrested - and lived in London for 6 years. There, he got involved with the Trotskyist movement where he met Vanessa Redgrave and they collaborated in a couple of political theatrical plays. He became co-publisher of the greek trotskyist newspaper in London.
He participated in "May of 68" rising in Paris where he got severely injured.
After the fall of greek dictatorship he returned to Greece and got a job as a ship-yard worker. While working he managed to officiate in the Labour Union of one of the biggest ship-yards in the country and win important benefits for his colleagues.
After that he turned towards Buddhist philosophy and became a student and follower of the famous Indian guru Osho
When Melina Mercouri as Minister for Culture invited him to participate in the event of "Athens as European Cultural Capital" (1985) he refused to do so because "Athens wasn't worth of being a Cultural Capital"!! After that statement he is considered a "black sheep" for the government.
He also disagreed with many record companies and the greek music industry in general. He was reputed to be eccentric and heretical.
He is considered as the best lyric writer of the last 30 years in Greece. His inspiration was drawn from 50's greek popular songs. His lyrics where unique, direct, inspiring and poetic! His songs became popular in Turkey, Israel, Serbia and even Japan!
Always active he was a seeker of truth.... He even started his own blog and was posting for 4 years. He stopped posting a year ago... He was found by some friends in his apartment in Thessaloniki, after being dead for four days...

This is a terrible loss for our country. One of the most famous songs he wrote speaks about Greece and what being greek  feels like.
It is more essential now then ever before for my greek readers to pay attention to those lyrics. We're going through hard times. Let mr. Rassoulis speak into your heart:

I quote him from the song refrain:

"Ahh Greece I love you
and I deeply thank you,
because you taught me
and now I know
to breath wherever I am
to die wherever I stand
and not to tolerate you....
Ahh Greece I'm gonna say it to you...
before the rooster crows
you deny me thirteen times,
you're blackmailing me,
you're bullying me,
you're throwing me away like a love-child,
yet you're always hitched on me"!

And here's another great song/ballad called "Νιώσε με" meaning "Feel me":

In both videos it's Rassoulis himself who sings in a tv program. You can learn more about him and his discography in his official site here.

Goodbye Mr. Manolis....
You're loved and remembered.

PRAYING FOR JAPAN....

I'm still kind of shocked for what happened in Japan. I'm literaly speechless after natural disasters happen.
Before starting my fire-fighting job I was like most people when it comes to natural disasters....  - You're afraid of them but you don't really think it's going to happen to you... After this special job I've learned a lot of important and critical "Life Lessons". I guess the biggest one is to respect nature as much I can, because guess what?? It's much more powerful than YOU and yes it can happen to YOU.

I'm sorry if I'm blackening your Saturday night with these thoughts. I just thought I'd share because I'm really thinking about those poor people all the time. So, if you are greek and you want to follow the latest updates on the incident click here.

And if you're interested in doing a bit more click here to see ways to help.

For my American friends, yahoo is suggesting 8 ways to help.

And to sum up:

Live your life everyday
to the fullest
respect nature
treat others kindly
do good things
whoever you are....
...you are just a visitor here.

7 secrets

I was very happy I was actually tagged by my friend Anzouya to play the 7 secrets game! I like all silly games like that, so I couldn't resist!! Here are my secrets: (ssssshhhh)

found here

1. I'm in love with my espresso machine!! I need 1-2 double espressos per day to be my lovely, grumpy, fabulous self. This was a very hard week for me, as my espresso machine broke down and we had to be seperated for a week.... I frankly couldn't sleep properly knowing that my espresso machine was locked up alone in a service room waiting to be fixed.... We're back together now!!

2. I was never a morning person and waking up was really hard for me! I was very comfortable and productive during the night (in school I loved to do my homework late at night). All that changed 2 years ago, after I got my job. My shift when working lasts from 13 to 17 hours a day (we have to be alert from the first light to the last which means that in the middle of the summer we wake up sometime between 3.45 to 4!! That's ugly!). Unfortunately it messes with your system... I now sometimes wake up at 4 and can't go back to sleep, so I just get up. At 4. That's....just... creepy.

3. I don't like driving or cars. I don't own one and I don't know how to drive... I had some driving lessons 10 years ago - they scared the crap out of me and I decided that it's best for all of us that I never drived! Luckily I have the best of drivers to carry my precious b**t around! (and I live in a small town!)

4. I have a really nice voice! Really... I do. When I was young I wanted to become a singer. I  gave it a try  but soon realised I'm not cut out for the "greek music industry" (eeeeeek!). My cousin though (the one I don't really like) IS a famous (kind of) singer in Greece. I guess it runs in our genes! As a backup plan I once did the recorded messages of a big telecommunication company I worked for! (the ones that say: "Please hold - your call will be diverted.... e.t.c. - It was fun!)

5. When I was really young I was saying to my parents all the time that "You're not my real family! My real family is rich and they live in a castle and the nurse mixed me up in the hospital with some other baby that was yours but they're looking for me!". I was too young. I meant it. Luckily they were just laughing at me!!

6. I'm a huge crybaby ok? Can't help it. My emotions have a life of their own and I just can't hide them. I'm an "open book" kind of person (I don't really like being one). I cry ok? A lot. I cry with films, people, real life tragedies (like the one in Japan and Hawaii - Oh my dear God....), when stressed or just sad. I'm famous for even crying over commercials.... (yep - especially the ones that show dogfood and stray puppies with big wet eyes!)

7. My "comfort food" is chocolate corn-flakes combined with a ham and cheese french toast. (eaten at the same time - I know disgusting.... - many people can't handle it!). I've tried many disgusting food combinations in the past.... I'll spare you and won't go into details....!

Well, I hope you enjoyed it! I know I did!

For the fun of it, I'm tagging:

If any of you busy bloggers think it was fun, I'd really love to hear some of your secrets!! And if anybody else wants to participate, please go ahead and say I tagged you!

And some more of my jewellery for the weekend!! Feel free to leave feedback whoever you are! Thanx, xxx

The "Flower Power Girl"rings
And the "Flower Power Girl" earrings!

See ya next time!!

Khaki Snow White

Today of all days I decided to go for a coffee with a friend. Why am I saying that, you might ask? Because I'm a person that truly despises cold weather and today was THE coldest day in years! You don't believe me? Really.... look.....

Can you see that tiny bit of frost? I call that heavy snow! And I've seen snow 3 times in my hometown for as long as I live !! Yay!! And that's me going out. In. the. cold:

Freezing my b**t in the line of blogging duty, so that you can all see the alley in front of our house and how I made my hair for this post (but you can't see that I guess...!)

It's the easiest thing you can do for wavy hair actually and even I can do it! (look at no 3 of this list). Check the tutorial made by that sweet girl, Julie of Orchid Gray here! (It works wonders - Thank you dear Julie!

Outfit:

Skirt - Attrativo
White Shirt - Attrativo
Black sweater - the one I wear all the time!
Khaki cardigan - Urban Outfitters
Grey Scarf - American Apparel
Black Scarf - from the boutique I was working
Shoes - Hunter
Bag - Deux Hommes (free from a magazine!)
Necklace - Handmade by me!

One more necklace I made! I named it "Snow White" (hence the title), because of the cute wooden apple and the lovely white beads I used! Here is how I wore it, but the length can be adjusted!

Until next time.... x x x !

The Handwriting Game

Here I am, your blogger that's usually running late, striking twice! In a weekend!!
I couldn't help myself after finding this fun game over at Louana's blog - The eleventh monkey!

You just have to answer the following questions on a piece of paper and post it! Here are the questions:

1. What’s your name / blogger name?
2. What’s your blog's URL?
3. Write, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”.
4. Favorite quote?
5. Your favorite song?
6. Your favorite band / singers?
7. Anything else you want to say?
8. Tag 3 bloggers to participate. I just tagged myself!!

And here is my piece of paper:

I hope you can read it! I'm tagging:

A) Ashley of "2 eyes in the mirror"
B) Ralph of "Shybiker"
C) Emily of "Ruby Slipper Journeys"

And in general if anyone else wants to participate feel free to say I tagged you!!

By the way I had to show off my really cool notebooks. The cover design is a copy of the "Bird Vases" motives. They were imported from the cyclades island Milos and found later at the central palace sanctuary at Knossos, Crete. (Middle Minoan, MM 2000-1600 B.C.!! / www.Daphnedesign.net). Isn't it amazing how contemporary the design looks?
And did any of you notice I'm half way through my remix? I'm very happy about it and the fact that I have some outfits left before I run out of ideas!! To celebrate here's a mix of those 15 outfits:

- Which one do you like the most?
